Professional Resume Writer Organization Provides "Kevlar Shield" and "First Response Backpacks" for U.S. Troops Stationed Abroad
NEW YORK, NY (PRWeb) March 9, 2007 -- Protecting and providing comfort to American soldiers stationed wherever we raise our country's flag is of paramount importance. With the constant images of injured soldiers being shown on television news programs, and recent coverage of Bob Woodruff's miraculous recovery from an IED attack, the National Resume Writers' Association Board of Directors decided to find a way to help American troops.
The National Resume Writers' Association (www.nrwa.com), a 400-member, non-profit organization, dedicated to elevating the professionalism of resume writers and career services professionals through comprehensive educational programs, has a long tradition of helping those in need.
After conducting research on various non-profits assisting American soldiers, the group's Board of Directors found several ways to help U.S. soldiers through the Soldiers' Angels program (www.soldiersangels.com). The non-profit organization offers many options for individuals and groups to assist soldiers, including purchasing Kevlar shields to protect soldiers from severe injuries incurred by IED attacks, providing comfort after injury with First Response backpacks, decorating "Blankets of Hope," or adopting an overseas soldier and providing twice-monthly care packages and correspondence. NRWA has decided to incorporate all of these areas into their outreach program.
"It is so important for our military service members to feel protected and supported during their overseas duty tours. Our organization has a tradition of contributing to worthy causes - the well-being of U.S. troops is certainly worthy of our support," stated Kathy Sweeney, a nationally recognized professional resume writer and interview coach and president of NRWA. "If we can save just one life or provide comfort to the soldiers while they are stationed overseas, then we are happy to step up to the plate."
NRWA has purchased one Kevlar shield, which is designed to lessen the impact of IEDs on soldiers. In addition, the organization has purchased 40 First Response backpacks, containing personal care products, clothing, a phone card to call family members while recovering, and a "Blanket of Hope," which is handmade by Soldiers' Angels volunteers and is accompanied by a note of well wishes for each soldier.
Further, NRWA members have signed up to adopt soldiers, providing them with twice-monthly care packages and correspondence. The organization has also decided to create a contest for its members surrounding the best designed "Blanket of Hope." Soldiers' Angels offers a no-sew blanket kit, which comes complete with one blanket, a set of markers, a blank white cloth that will serve as a 'canvas', some decorative items, and a note card to fill out and attach to the Blanket of Hope.
"I think the blanket designing contest will be a great way to show the creativity of our members. Our members also will feel tremendous joy, knowing that the soldiers will be so appreciative of our efforts," commented Sweeney. "We plan on sharing the correspondence we receive from our soldiers, as they will become an extended 'family member' of our resume writing community."
Patti Patton-Bader, founder of Soldiers' Angels, is thrilled that the National Resume Writers' Association is helping out the military service members.
"It is only through our collaborative efforts that we can effectively help our troops. Our troops need us now more than ever," said Patton-Bader. "I thank the membership of NRWA for answering the call and standing up for our heroes."
NRWA Board Members Sally McIntosh, Bonnie Kurka, and Greg Bridgeman, all professional resume writers, will be overseeing the program. The program has special importance to them, as each of these members has either served or has a family member who serves in the military.
NRWA encourages other groups to help American military service members by donating through Soldiers' Angels.
